Power / Telephone Lines

    Power / Telephone Lines

We have numerous unsightly (and potentially dangerous) electrical lines running from the poles to our house, more than we should. I expect to have three (power/phone/cable, for example) but we have upwards of seven, some of which have to be obsolete.  Whom do I contact to find out which lines do what, and which can be removed? Do I pay an electrician to examine them, or is this a power company question?

    Thanks!

    Hi DudeFromThatPlace,

I would recommend you contact your local power company first about overhead electrical lines.  From there, they should be able to direct you to your next step.  If from there you need a good electrician, you should be able to find one by checking www.angieslist.com or calling our member services team at 888-944-LIST (5478).

    Good luck!

    Hello Dude from that Place,

Probably the first step is to contact the Power company and find out what it will take to get the power lines buried. They probably will tell you that you will need to have the ditch dug and they will supply the cable and then you will probably have to have an electrician cut it over (customer side). Then once you have that information then call the phone and cable company and ask them if you can buried the lines in the same ditch. All companies have their own policies...Hopefully in your area the 3 companies will work with you so it doesn't cost a fortune....

    Take Care,

    Jim
