Years ago they manufactured a heavier framed window called the Series
IV and we stopped selling American Jewel Windows when they replaced it
with the thinner framed window. We found the new frame to be too weak.
Compared to what is available by some vinyl manufacturers today I would
now have considered the Series IV window to be low end.

I saw their window again back in March at a trade show and it just does not measure up to the better windows out there.

We have 10 Amerimax in our house. We had them installed around 6 years ago and no problems so far. We got the dark green painted frames with white on the inside and love them. The paint has really lasted. I liked how the Amerimax windows came night locks and even sightline. I shopped for windows for about a month and decided that Amerimax was the best window for me. I looked at Milgards - didnt like the single strength glass, Anlins and Atriums - didnt like the warranty for either window, and also California Deluxe Windows,a great window but not for $900 a opening. Amerimax has a good warranty and is affordable. Would recommend the Amerimax to anyone looking for a very good window at a good price.

Replacement Windows

I would try to contact some contractors and get prices. We bought Harvey and are very satisfied, but I am sure there are others out there. You want low-E, double pane. You can do comparisons online and find out what things to look for. If you go to the brands that send you flyers, some of them are a huge rip off. I think our windows were between $200-$300 per window.

Re: Replacement Windows

I got Amerimax vinyl windows put in my house last year and am very happy with them. We replaced 23 windows in an Alexandria, VA house in early 2004. Price, product (double hung) and service (1 day) were good. We used them again in later 2004 or 2005 to replace a few windows (casement) in another house. We tried to use them in 2007, but they do not service Baltimore area (or at least not at that time).

We are certainly fans of and fully endorse Willet's company and its service.

Re: Replacement Windows

I am looking to purchase 7 replacement windows before winter.
After checking the comments in Checkbook magazine and visiting a number of dealer/providers, we selected American Jewel Windows made for the American Home Center located in Beltsville, MD, The owner, Mr. Robert Willett, gave us an excellent presentation. No deals! Priced as presented. Not cheap, reasonable based on our visits to earlier dealer/providers. Installation date selected. Crews came on time and worked very well to removed all the windows to be replaced and then installed the new replacements. Crew worked quickly and well. Was misty wet and so our white carpets were not as well left as before they began. Work was completed in one day! A better outside cleanup was suggested and that the team bring a small hand vacuum to clean the small chips on the carpets. Several days after the installation, we noticed some imperfections and they were quickly taken care of. Overall, we are happy with the windows, their cost, and their installation and their response to our requests for repairs. In addition, American Jewel Windows, the manufacturer of the windows gave us a rebate of $250. Check them online before ordering the windows from American Home.
