I'm lazy, when should I DIY around the house?

I'm lazy, when should I DIY around the house?

I'm probably the least handy person I know.  So, by default, I'll almost always call someone else to fix or improve something around the house. About the only thing I'll do myself is change a light bulb.

However, I do realize that there are probably lots of little (or big) things I could or should do myself instead of just paying for the convenience of having someone else do it.   Problem is, since I'm not very handy, I don't know what those things are.  Plus, I'm lazy, and probably won't bother to do the research to figure out how to do something myself unless someone else convinces me not to be so stupid.

So, I need some advice from those of you less lazy and more thrifty than I.  What are the types of odd jobs around the house that I really should be doing myself?  With all the do-it-yourself advertising and TV shows out there these days, I just can't decide what's seems like a reasonable DIY job and what I should avoid.

    Thoughts?

Look for a community college in your area that offers a class on home maintenance and sign up if you have time.  And, check some of the big chain stores like Lowes or Home Depot to see what (free) classes or information sessions they have available.

Often you will find that there are preventative maintenance items you can take on to aoid bigger repairs in the future.  And, it will give you some insight as to what repairs cost when they are necessary.

Same here, cubbie_gal.  I might also clean out the washers on the faucets, but that's it.
