  • Re: Losing heat through switch plate covers?

I watched the sub-contractor hired by the company who added a room to our house insulate our new room and it was extraordinary.  The first thing he did was spray expanding foam insulation behind each outlet.  Then he added the insulation between the studs.  I was impressed with the work and the new room stays warmer than the ...

  • Re: Low bid then upcharge, illegal, yet pervasive.

Oh, my.  I don't think it gets any worse than what you are describing; you can't even "name names" while you are involved in the "negotiations".  I have been very lucky when it comes to contractors and have never had something like this happen.  We had a room added to our house by an A rated AL ...

  • Re: Anybody have a smelly crawlspace?

Stinky crawlspaces aren't just native to Northern California!  Make certain you don't have standing water in the crawlspace ... if you do you'll have to get the downspout water away from the house before you can begin to solve this problem.  If you don't have standing water and it's just damp down there, then the key ...

  • Re: My cat eats plastic bags. Anyone else's?

What kind of plastic bags are we talking about here?  The "Number 4" (LDPE - Low Density Polyethylene) bags or "Number 2" (HDPE - High Density Polyethylene) bags?  Some plastic bags that are touted as being "biodegradable" use corn starch as a component to allow soil enzymes to accelerate the ...

  • Angie's List Publication: The Toilet Issue

In the November 2006 Angie's List Publication (not all Angie's List Chapters receive a monthly publication, but, trust me on this, it's spiffy) a funny story was submitted by me concerning a diabolical Irish toilet.  The original text had to be edited down to 150 words so it would fit in the publication, ...

  • Re: The Return of TV

Hiro (the hero) is the breakout character of this television season.  We saw some serious depth to the character (and the actor) when he returns from the future without his child-like demeanor.  I just hope NBC doesn't drag the series on for years without a conclusion, like Twin Peaks and Desparate Housewives.

  • Re: Quick Poll: Should Angie's List switch to a different kind of M&M's?

You can have all the candies marked with a "W", but first I get to pick out the ones with the the weird looking 3's and E's.

  • Re: InLine Fiberglass Windows & Doors

I have to say that Inline Windows' line of Euro-styled Tilt ’N Turn windows is a welcome addition to the North American market.  I've never seen windows like this in the US, but they're all over the place in Europe.  These types of windows can be easily opened in one of two different directions, which gives you several ...

  • Re: Peacocks on a Pickup

When I was in high school, a million years ago, there was a terrible thunderstorm one night.  After the storm passed our dog was still going nuts.  It was the middle of the night and he was going bonkers in my room, so I flipped on the light and there, outlined against the lamp-light, was a 7-foot bat (approximately), flapping around in ...
