Meself, I'd go for the new vinyl windows.

Can you get double-pane low-e glass in your existing aluminum frames? Do you have an estimate from someone to do it?

Did the plumber fix the problem. I knew a plumber once in an institutional setting and he WOULD NOT clean up after a job like this. (me, I'll clean up; it all pays the same). There are also customers who would object to paying a plumber $xxx an hour to mop the floor. Go buy yourself a shop vac and get over it.

Actually, the reason you can't find someone to repair your paper shredder is simple economics. There's no money in it. If I were to come to your office to fix your shredder and I told you what I needed to fix it, you'd say "forget it, I can get a new one for that!"

This looks like an oppportunity for someone in the mess kit repair business to diversify!

Look for some handyman type with a helper. Its not brain surgery but mostly involves moving and lifting and would require refitting the vent to the dryer. The hoses on the washer are certainly long enough.

I would suggest Len The Plumber. They did my polybutylene pipe replacement job described above and I was very pleased with their work.

Something like this is best done at the time the appliances are installed.

I used a window unit in a similar setting once and it worked out fine. If you have a good spot to place the condensing unit outside, considering ease of installation and service, then a Mr. Slim or Sanyo or Mitsubushi would also work.

Welcome to the club. My polybutlyene pipe cracked just downstream of the meter and I had the pipe replaced with 1 inch copper the old fashioned way, all 200 feet of it. The plumber dug a trench with a small backhoe and removed the plastic and laid the new copper with brazed joints. The only way to fly.
